I was fired from a job at a call center and I felt that it was because I was being discriminated against. I always got the vibe that I was being judged because I’m gay and the people that worked there, including the managers were mean to me. They would talk and laugh with other people about me behind my back. Of course another co-worker that thought this was wrong told me this, but I knew it was happening.
After a few months of working there, I noticed they started picking at me for petty things. I could log in a minute late for work and they would write me up for it. They weren’t doing this to anyone else that was late, even employees that were 5 minutes late. I knew something was going on, but I figured I would just let it play out. I knew if they fired me, it was because I was gay and not because of my job performance.
Shortly after getting wrote up once again for being a minute late, I was called into the HR office. They told me that they had to fire me because I was late. After leaving the call center, my co-worker called me to say she overheard that I got fired. She said that she thought it was because I was gay and she said I needed to contact a wrongful dismissal lawyer. I knew that is what I was going to have to do because this was just wrong.
I started searching for a lawyer to help me out and that’s when I found OLS Quebec. They can help with wrongful dismissal cases. So I called them to see what they could do for me. They asked me some questions and asked me if I could bring my co-worker that was giving me information with me to my appointment with them. Luckily, she didn’t have to work that day and said she would come with me.
I went and picked her up and was so happy to see her. I hadn’t seen her since I got fired from the job. She said that she thought all of this was so wrong and she didn’t care if she lost her job because of it. We went into the lawyers office and he asked me some questions and asked for my termination papers. I gave them to him and then he asked my friend some questions. She answered all of them for them and even offered to get additional information for them.
After discussing this with the lawyer, they said they could help. Within just a few days, I heard from them and they said they made contact with the employer. They said this sounds like I was terminated for reasons related to discrimination and they are going to take my case. I am glad I found them and I know they will help me out.
